Useful automation makes its scope, review points, data handling and definition of success visible from the start.
Agree the scope
Define the task, its boundaries and the people authorised to make decisions. Automation should have a clear job and an equally clear point at which a person takes over.
Keep human review meaningful
Review is more than a final approval button. The reviewer needs enough context to challenge inputs, understand exceptions and stop or correct the process.
Handle data deliberately
Decide what information is needed, where it may be processed, who may access it and how long it should be kept before implementation begins.
Set acceptance criteria
Specify the outcomes that must be correct, the exceptions that must be surfaced and the evidence needed to decide whether the automation is ready for use.
